We are thrilled to announce that our team won the zone event, securing first place in designing schedules and developing a well-crafted balsa glider. Their outstanding performances in the morning events set the stage for success in the remaining half-day events, ultimately leading them to victory.

This year featured a new challenge: designing an eco-friendly house that could collect water, withstand high winds, and support a helicopter landing. The group of Year 8 and 9 students who took on this challenge received high praise from the university judges for their collaborative efforts and innovative ideas. They based their design on a Japanese model, which, while not the most effective at collecting water, was structurally strong enough to withstand high winds.

The final event was the bridge challenge. After extensive planning, our Year 9 team constructed a bridge that was the lightest and had to be hit to fit into the stand. Remarkably, it was able to support the second-largest load of the day, finishing in third place overall, much to the team's surprise and delight.

All members of the team should be commended for their collaborative spirit and positive attitude throughout the day. They received congratulations from all the supervisors from ANSTO, Rotary, and the University of Newcastle.
