Music Ensembles

Kirrawee High School offers a dynamic and inclusive co-curricular music program designed to enrich students’ musical journey beyond the classroom. With two distinct streams—Stars of the Future and Premier Music Ensembles—our program nurtures students at every stage of their development.

Stars of the Future is tailored for emerging musicians, primarily in Years 7 to 9, who are building foundational skills in performance, ensemble playing, and musical confidence. Students in this stream participate in a range of ensembles, including Concert Band, Stage Band, Junior Vocal Group, and Percussion Ensemble. These ensembles provide a fun, collaborative space for students to explore their musical potential, develop ensemble awareness, and perform for authentic audiences.

A highlight of this stream is the annual Graduating Concert, which celebrates the growth and achievements of our Year 9 musicians as they complete their time in Stars of the Future and transition to new musical opportunities.

Premier Music Ensembles cater to our advanced and experienced musicians, offering a platform for high-level performance, artistic challenge, and public showcasing. Students in this stream may be selected to participate in prestigious ensembles such as the Wind Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, String Orchestra, Kaleidoscope (Vocal Ensemble), and Kirra Daiko (Taiko Drumming Ensemble). These ensembles perform regularly at school events, competitions, and community functions, representing Kirrawee High School with pride, professionalism, and musical excellence. These ensembles are open to all students in Years 7 - 12, however, they must undergo an audition process.

Together, these programs foster a strong sense of community, creativity, and excellence in music. Whether just starting out or ready to perform at an elite level, students are encouraged to find their voice, develop their craft, and share their passion for music.

Private Instrumental Tuition at Kirrawee High School

As part of our commitment to supporting High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) in the Creative and Performing Arts, Kirrawee High School offers an outstanding Private Instrumental Tutoring Program. This program provides students with the opportunity to extend their technical skills, performance confidence, and musical expression through individualised, expert instruction.

Lessons are held during the school day and run for 30 minutes, allowing students to access quality music education within their regular timetable. Parents are invoiced through the school, and for families who wish to organise additional support, tutors are also available for after-school lessons via direct arrangement.

We are proud to partner with a team of highly experienced and professional tutors:

  • Nick Calligeros – Trumpet
  • Adam Robinson – Saxophones and Brass
  • Tim Roffe – Percussion and Drumming
  • Jake Wilson – Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Piano

These tutors bring a wealth of industry knowledge and pedagogical expertise, and work closely with students to develop both technical mastery and musical artistry. Whether preparing for ensemble auditions, performance assessments, or personal growth, our private tuition program is a valuable extension of the school’s HPGE music offerings.
