9PE1 Connects with Culture Through Traditional First Nations Game
04 Jul 2025
As part of both our NAIDOC Week celebrations and our current unit on cultural games, 9PE.1 recently took part in a practical lesson exploring Gorri — a traditional First Nations game that involves throwing objects at a moving target, often representing animals. The students embraced the opportunity to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in a hands-on and respectful way, learning not only the physical skills involved but also the cultural significance of traditional games in First Nations communities. The experience sparked curiosity, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, inspiring meaningful reflection as part of their learning journey.
