Year 7 Students Explore the Ancient Past at the Chau Chak Wing Museum

1

Our Year 7 students have embarked on an exciting History fieldwork excursion to the Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney, as part of their studies in Investigating the Ancient Past.

Throughout the day, students toured the museum’s fascinating exhibits, gaining insights into archaeological methods and the ethical considerations involved in displaying historical artifacts. The excursion provided an opportunity to see firsthand how historians and archaeologists interpret the past through preserved objects and material culture.

A highlight of the day was the hands-on object-based learning activity. Students engaged in analyzing historical items from the museum’s collection, enhancing their source analysis skills and deepening their understanding of ancient civilizations. This interactive experience encouraged them to think critically about the past and its representation in museums.

The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to bring history to life beyond the classroom, fostering their curiosity and appreciation for the study of ancient societies.
