Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA)

MUNA

On Saturday 8 June, three KHS year 11 students - Luka Ford, Olivia Mustapic and Taylor Harding - competed in the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) competition at the NSW Parliament House. It is an all-day event from 8.30am-4pm. The competition invites high school students to form school teams and participate in debates, along the principles adopted at the United Nations Assembly, pertinent to world political and social issues. Each team represents a particular country.

Kirrawee represented India and the three issues (resolutions) on the day were:

1/ taking urgent measures for the prevention of an arms race in outer space

2/ to place the needs and human rights of migrants and refugees at the core of their events to prevent smuggling and human trafficking

3/ calling on all bodies of the United Nations to address the issue of return or restitution of cultural property to the countries of origin.

Some incredibly clever debate took place during the day and all three resolutions were passed!

The competition only places the top two and Kirrawee were in the top 5 out of 18 teams! The competition also only places the best speaker on the day, with Olivia Mustapic coming in second best!

Congratulation to 3 oustanding student leaders at Kirrawee High School and a big thank you for to Mrs Mustapic for organising this amazing opportunity for our students.
