Both the girls’ and boys’ open’s soccer teams were recently knocked out of their respective Sydney East competitions.
The girls managed to get through to the quarter finals after having a first round bye followed by victories against Newtown (2-1) and Rose Bay (3-1). They were very close to progressing to the semi-finals after leading Blackwattle Bay by 3 goals to 1 with ten minutes to play. Unfortunately, they went down 4-3 in the final few minutes of that fixture. They can hold their heads high though after some very good performances.
The boys’ team had a first round bye before defeating Blackwattle Bay in the second round via an exciting penalty shootout. The scores were locked at 1 all after fulltime and extra time. The boys went down in their next round against Oatley by 2 goals to nil. They also played very well over their two games.
I wish the year 12 players well on their future endeavours and I look forward to seeing the younger members of the teams on the pitch again next year. Hopefully we can advance a little further.
