On Sunday, 3rd November, the prestigious Verbrugghen Hall at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music was alive with energy as the SSSW Showcase Concert brought together a host of talented young musicians. A highlight of the event was the powerful performance by Kirra Daiko, Kirrawee High School's renowned Japanese drumming group. This special collaboration, organized by Adam Robinson, featured an original composition by Kirra Daiko’s director, Kerri Lacey, who created an electrifying Taiko drum part for the piece "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train."
This iconic piece, performed by both the SSSW ensemble and the Kirrawee High School Concert Band throughout the year, showcased the intensity and artistry of traditional Taiko drumming, blending it with a dynamic ensemble arrangement. The result was a thrilling, cross-cultural musical experience that left the audience captivated.
The concert was hosted by KHS alumnus Connor Mead and also featured solo performances by several talented students, including current Kirrawee High School students, who impressed the crowd with their skill and dedication. Congratulations to all who contributed to this unforgettable evening and a big thank you to the supportive families and staff who made this experience possible.
