Year 12 Leadership

1

As Year 12’s final weeks at KHS approach us, our Year 11 cohort are being introduced to the new responsibilities and expectations that will be placed on them from Term 4, as they commence their own HSC course.

Part of the preparation for the transition from Year 11 to Year 12 is the election of a new Year 12 Leadership team.

The Year 12 Leadership Team consists of up to 12 students who show significant skills in the areas of collaboration, communication, problem solving and goal setting and demonstrate a passion for student and community advocacy, social justice and empowering positive wellbeing. To be elected as Year 12 Leaders, students in Year 11 must undertake an application process which involves a written testament of their suitability, a speech delivered to the Year 10 and 11 cohorts on what leadership means to them, and then, if successful in the student and staff voting process, are asked to interview with the Senior Executive and Wellbeing team.

This rigorous selection process was well underway on Thursday of Week 5 when 18 Year 11 candidates had the opportunity to speak in front of their peers. All candidates spoke with great insight into the important role of leadership in the school and articulated some admirable personal values which clearly aligned to our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience.

Year 11 has entered their votes and, following the staff voting which closes early next week, the leadership team will be selected and invited to interview in late Week 6.

A big congratulations should be extended to all candidates who stepped up in service of their peers and their school in applying for leadership positions and who spoke so eloquently about the mighty Kirrawee High School.

The Year 12 Leadership team for 2024 will have huge shoes to fill, but in light of yesterday’s outstanding speeches, it seems that they are well and truly up to the task.
