This year, 9 students studied Textiles and Design for the HSC with the majority of students focussing on the focus area’s of ‘Apparel’ and ‘Costume’. Once again, a wide variety of inspirations were derived from issues such as sustainability, mental health, culture, history, movies, haute couture, contemporary ballet, personal experience, and Covid 19! Many different textile techniques were incorporated into each project such as felting, fabric manipulations using shrinking sheet, hand dyeing, solvy fabric production, applique, hand and machine embroidery, beading and yarn couching. Some students also utilised our STEM room to use the Laser Cutter to include CAD and CAM in their design projects. Textiles involves high levels of project management as well as practical and ICT skills.
A huge Congratulations to all students for working so hard to produce high quality designs. I’m sure they are all feeling relieved that half of their HSC for Textiles and Design is now finished!! Here are a selection of photo’s showing item’s and portfolio’s.
