When Mr Yu and Miss Windle announced that Year 7 would be going to Stanwell Tops for camp this year, we were all bursting with excitement and it gave us something to look forward to after NAPLAN which we all needed. However nothing would ever prepare us for what was in store for Year 7.
Immediately when we arrived, we were all stunned by how beautiful and modern the property was. The teachers brought us all into the auditorium where it was a big open space. The auditorium will be remembered best as the overfeeding place which I'm sure everyone enjoyed. When we got sent to our cabins, it was great to all be in one big group with all our peers. After we got settled in, it was time for the part each student had been waiting for.
Each group went off to their separate activities which involved things like abseiling, archery, tree tops, cart racing, survivor and much more. Each group had the chance to do two activities on day one, three on day two and one on day three which gave students the opportunity to try something new each day that some may not have done before. The first night activity was a trivia night hosted by the trivia master Mr Hunt! There were trivia questions and bingo, some teams even managed to win movie tickets along with many other lucky students who received lollies and chip packets, which is every child's dream.
The morning awakened and we all got ready and walked to the dining hall where we had a filling meal like always. The teachers then herded us into the famous auditorium where we had a big talk about inclusion and diversity. We played a few games in our groups and then set off into our activities.
The night activity of day two was a disco hosted by “Mr DJ Yu” who did a fantastic job at keeping everyone's disco moves on the dance floor. The disco was set in the auditorium late at night with some very fun songs so everyone else on camp grounds could hear not only the students but also the teachers having an enjoyable time.
I think we speak for everyone when we say that camp could not have been this amazing without all the incredibly awesome teachers involved in organizing it. We want to especially thank Mr Yu and Miss Windle for all the hard work they have put into planning our camp and to the rest of the teachers for staying away from their families just to be with us and make sure we had a fun time. Well can we just say, mission successful!
