KHS Year 10 Students Alyssia Acrouette, Imogen Howard, Tobie Lennon and Claudia Szkudlarek competed in the Real Talk Slam Poetry Finals @ Phive in Parramatta. The finals were a culmination of a six week workshop where students worked with Artist, Writer and Slam Poet Adrian Mouhajer, to develop exciting and original slam poetry pieces for performance.
The fifteen students who participated in the workshop competed in an internal heat at KHS to decide the top four to go through to the finals. Three judges had the tough job of selecting the four students to go through to the finals, and it really was tough, because all the pieces were SO GOOD!
At Phive, excitement and adrenalin was high, with twelve schools from across Sydney ready to perform. The pieces were provocative, personal, and political and there wasn't a dull moment. Lord Mayor of Parramatta Donna Davis and Special Guest Performance Poet Rudy Francisco from the USA who performed a set, were blown away by the student talent.
Congratulations to all the students who participated, we didn't win this time, but Year 10 2023 will go in and fight it out next year in true KHS spirit! Btw, did you see us on the telly? Channel 7 Sunrise thought the student talent was pretty fab too!
