🔬 Exploring the Marvels of Genetics: A Memorable Excursion to Sydney Uni! 🧬

Greetings, parents, and fellow biology enthusiasts! We are thrilled to share the highlights of our recent excursion to the prestigious Sydney University with our 45 Year 12 Biology students. This educational adventure was specifically designed to enhance their understanding of Module 5: Heredity and Module 6: Genetic Change.

Our destination was the state-of-the-art biology laboratory, where our budding biologists had the incredible opportunity to witness real-world genetic research in action. They worked with skilled scientists and researchers engaged in various experiments, studying the intricacies of heredity and genetic change.

Under the guidance of the university's PHD students, our students actively participated in hands-on activities. The students were captivated by the cutting-edge technology at the university's DNA sequencing facility. They were amazed to see the process of DNA extraction, amplification, and sequencing, gaining a newfound appreciation for the complex molecular mechanisms that underlie genetic change.

As the day progressed, we engaged in stimulating discussions with university researchers who generously shared their expertise and insights. The students eagerly posed questions, fueling intellectually stimulating conversations on topics such as genetic mutations, gene editing technologies, and the impact of genetic research on human health.

With the trial examinations on the horizon, this excursion has undoubtedly equipped our students with a solid foundation in Module 5: Heredity and Module 6: Genetic Change. We are confident that they will approach their exams with confidence and demonstrate their comprehensive understanding of these crucial biological concepts.

Thanks to Ms Furniss for organising the excursion.
