A different venue and a different format brought both challenges and triumphs. The competition took place in a fantastic location, but the single-day format for each gender posed difficulties. In this format, only the first-placed teams in each pool advanced to the gold medal match, leaving no room for recovery after a defeat. Both our boys and girls teams faced strong opposition, resulting in third-place play-offs. However, both teams showcased their strength and resilience, ultimately securing third place in the State Knockout Final. Congratulations to all team members on this achievement!
Boys Team Highlights
Despite Nate Kell’s injury, he played in all matches despite a damaged eardrum, demonstrating incredible determination. Liam Cocks, one of our top players, made himself available to accompany the team, ensuring depth in the roster. The boys managed their lineup effectively, allowing all players to gain valuable competition experience, even with the 13-player limit. Our younger team members embraced their roles and contributed to the team’s success. Well done, boys—the future looks bright for KHS water polo!
Girls Team Highlights
With just nine players, the girls rose to the occasion, often exceeding their own expectations. Each player discovered new strengths, and several found newfound confidence in their abilities. Elle, who joined Kirrawee High School this year, played a significant role despite battling an ongoing injury. Her support and determination were commendable. All players earned admiration for their efforts against formidable opponents. In water polo, the level of exhaustion poolside often reflects a player’s commitment, and our team’s exhaustion spoke volumes.
