Year 10 and 11 Textiles classes (plus a few invited special guests) enjoyed a day in the city where they completed a half day fashion illustration design course at Whitehouse School of Design and finished with a performance of Beauty and the Beast at the Capitol theatre.
Students were guided through a drawing class where they honed their skills in creating realistic and professional looking fashion drawings which were then rendered using markers to represent various fabric textures. These skills are going to be put into practice back in the classroom when the year 10’s complete their costume design folio’s, and the year 11’s transition into HSC mode for presentation of design development in their portfolio’s for the HSC.
We then completed the day with a wonderful performance of Beauty and the Beast, which was amazing, with creative and technical costume design and state of the art lighting and staging. We were lucky to finish with a 'meet the crew and cast' opportunity, who answered our questions about performing and how costumes help to portray the character. A great day was had by all!
