Kirrawee High School (Koalas) vs Alexandria Park
Round one of the University Shield has been completed with the KHS Koalas overcoming Alexandria Park 32 to 4.
Prior to the match a minutes silence was held for a member of the Alexandria Park Community who passed away over the weekend.
Conditions underfoot were appalling, with the consistent rain and the inability to get the grass cut creating boggy and slow conditions, favouring the smaller edge players.
Kirrawee took advantage of some big Alexandria forwards and kept the pace of the game up. Some solid debuts from our year 11 players including Thomas Stephens, Sam Lewis and Jay McLaughlin inspired the Koalas to a half time lead of 16 points.
Tries to Riley Crawford, Stephens and a double to McLaughlin set up a more relaxed second half with the Koala’s conceding a try early, however bounced back with a solid charge down and breakaway from Charlie Harrigan, setting up Tashi East to score under the posts. Solid game for the experienced James Fink and James Weaver, Harry Slater and Amadou Diallo with an inspirational performance from Captain Keenan Ewings who took out man of the match for several barnstorming runs and relentless in defence.
Kirrawee Koalas progress into the Quarter Finals and will play the winner of The Jannalli High vs Woolooware High School.
