Incredible Student Achievements
Wow can you believe we are in June already! The month of May has been an incredible success for Kirrawee High School staff and students with so many wonderful achievements to talk about. While I can’t mention them all here, there are a few that are certainly worthy of a special mention.
I had the pleasure of attending my first KHS athletics carnival and what I expected to be a cold day at “The Fridge” turned out to be sunny and bright with records broken all over. A highlight for me was the nail biting final of the girls 15yrs High Jump where Izobelle Louison-Roe smashed her PB and the school record. We are expecting great things from Izobelle.
Our debating teams have had amazing success in their relevant competitions with both junior and senior teams making it through to the next round of their respective competitions.
Year 11 students Annaliese Mustapic, Amadene Edwards and Estelle Stark represented our school at the 2022 Rotary District 9675 Model United Nations Assembly at NSW Parliament House. The girls came in second place to Ascham School earning themselves a spot at Nationals in Canberra in August. We were one of only two public schools represented and I am so proud of their achievement.
In the creative and performing arts space, I can’t wait to see our student talent showcased at next week’s CAPA Showcase.
Opportunities to meet parents
It was wonderful to meet so many parents face to face last week at our Year 11 and 12 Parent Teacher Evening. It was the first real opportunity I have had to meet and speak to parents since I began in August last year. I would like to remind everyone about the P&C. P&C is a great opportunity for parents to get involved in the school and I encourage those who can, to attend. The P&C is often the first place I go when we need to seek input from parents to inform decision making in our school. We have regular scheduled presentations from our Head Teachers as well as our Student Leaders. It is an excellent forum for you to learn and ask questions about the school, and we are always open to hearing your suggestions and ideas. Our next meeting is on Monday 6th June at 7:30pm in the school Library.
Consultation
Over the next few weeks, I will be seeking parent and student input regarding some key issues. The first will be an opportunity for you to tell us how you feel about student use of mobile phones at school. From a teacher perspective, mobile phones are problematic. The second will be an opportunity for you to give us feedback on the changes we made earlier in the year to student access to toilets. Keep an eye on your email for these opportunities.
Respectful and Responsible Students
During one of our online assemblies this month, I spoke at length to students about the importance of school uniform. When students are wearing our uniform, they represent Kirrawee High. This includes before and after school, on a bus or train, at the shops, park etc. with friends. We are very proud of our school’s positive reputation in the community, and we are very keen to protect and maintain our positive image for all past, present, and future students.
