Year 12 Textiles and Design Students Complete MTP's

1

Our Year 12 Textiles and Design students have successfully completed their Major Textiles Projects (MTPs), showcasing their advanced skills and creativity developed over the course. These projects represent months of dedicated research, design, and craftsmanship, allowing students to explore textile techniques and concepts in depth.

Students drew inspiration from a diverse range of themes and stories, including women’s rights, debutantes, war, various historical periods, as well as iconic cultural references such as Cinderella and The Sound of Music. Some also explored deeply personal and powerful themes like fighting cancer, reflecting resilience and hope through their designs.

Each student produced a unique textile piece that reflects their individual vision and technical expertise, demonstrating high levels of innovation and craftsmanship. Creative textiles techniques such as natural dyeing, chenilling, hand and machine embroidery, fabric layering, 3D applique, laser cutting of motifs and beading were very popular this year, along with technical techniques such as pattern making, bagged out lining of garments, gathers, pleating, bows, invisible zippers and understitched linings. The completion of the MTPs marks an important milestone in their studies, preparing some of them for further education and careers in textiles, fashion, and design industries. For others, the study of textiles has been a passion that has also given them a lifelong skill and contributed positively to their wellbeing.

We commend all Year 12 textiles students for their project management, commitment and outstanding achievements in this challenging task. Photos of projects will be posted after external HSC marking has been completed.
