On Wednesday of Week 7 we had students represent Kirrawee HS both in person and online at Kimberwalli, the Western Sydney Aboriginal Centre for Excellence. Our students participated in the student advisory group to assist in advising The Arts Unit on events, policies, and programs, with a view to ensuring safety and inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the design and implementation process. During this day, one of our students', Erika, was selected to lead a group in discussion and report back to the group meeting, displaying her leadership and advocacy skillset.
"Kimberwalli" means "many stars" in the Darug language, a language spoken by Indigenous Australians in the region of Western Sydney. The name is also used to signify the potential and opportunities that young people, especially Aboriginal people, can achieve.
