Last Friday, stage 6 Textiles and Design students were involved in an all day incursion on Wet Felting, conducted by Jane Sherbourne-Higgins, from the Sutherland Shire Spinners and Weavers Guild.
Students started the day with a quick review on the properties of natural Wool fibre, and why they have the ability to form a non-woven fabric (felt). Then Jane guided them through the process of setting up and laying down wool fibre top in layers and creating designs over our bases.
We then learnt how to use water, detergent and texture (bubble wrap) to agitate the wool fibre to encourage the felting process and produce a pre-felt textile artwork. The students involved should be commended on their enthusiasm and creativity with learning this brand new textile skill.
Some students will use these skills to build creativity and innovation into their HSC major works in 2024. Here are some photo’s of their amazing textile felted artworks!
