NSW Youth Liaison Police Presentation - E-Bike Safety 2025

1

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to you as your child has indicated they travel to school by bicycle or E-bike.

Over recent months, we have experienced a significant increase in community complaints regarding the behaviour of students riding E-bikes to and from school. Concerns raised include dangerous riding practices, failure to wear helmets, and disregard for road rules and pedestrian safety. These behaviours pose a risk not only to our students but also to members of the wider community.

In response, we have invited the Police Youth Liaison Team to Kirrawee High School on Wednesday 2 July to speak with students about bicycle and E-bike safety, and to clarify the legal obligations for young riders. This is an important opportunity to reinforce safe riding practices and raise awareness of the responsibilities that come with using these modes of transport.

On the same day, we will also be issuing all student riders with a copy of the Kirrawee High School Bicycle and E-Bike Rider Safety Guidelines and Safety Agreement. Students and their parents or carers will be expected to review this document together and return a signed User Agreement to the school.

The guidelines and agreement are now available on our website under About Our School > Rules and Policies.

We thank you in advance for your support and cooperation in helping to ensure the safety of our students and the broader community. By working together, we can promote safe, responsible, and respectful use of bicycles and E-bikes.

Kind regards,
Christine Campbell
Principal
