Year 12 Biology Kickstart Workshop

Two kickstart workshops have been organised for Yr12 Biology students at the University of Sydney.

Workshop 1 will address Module 5 of the HSC Heredity. In this workshop students will learn about an inherited disease-sickle cell anaemia and its genetic cause, which they undertake a case study.

Workshop 2 will address Module 6 of the HSC Genetic change. In this workshop, students will learn about the importance of biotechnology in several aspects of our society including medicine, agriculture and Industry.

Students will perform hands on activities in these 2 workshops.

Students will meet their teacher at Kirrawee Station at 8.20am.

Students will catch the train to Redfern station and walk to Sydney University. Students will be accompanied by their teacher.

At the conclusion of the event students will walk back to Redfern station,  they will  catch the train back to Kirrawee station where they will be dismissed by their teacher.

Students must make a genuine effort to catch up on any school work missed as a result of attending this excursion.

Cost:  $70.00

Venue:  University of Sydney (Level 2 Room 231, Carslaw building F07 The University of Sydney NSW 2006)

Transport:  Students will be catching public transport to and from the venue. Students require a Child/Youth Opal card. (not the School Opal card) They will be accompanied by a staff member.

Dress Code:  Full school uniform. Flat enclosed comfortable footwear.

Food:  Students are to bring their own water. Food is available for purchase or students can bring their own.

Students are to Bring:  A pen or pencil and a notebook.

Educational Outcomes:  Module 5 and 6 of the HSC

Additional Information:  Please note for the return train journey:

If you would like your child to alight from the train at a station other than Kirrawee, please indicate this on the consent form and write the name of the station where you would like your child to leave the train.
Students who do not have permission to alight from the train at any other station will return and be dismissed from Kirrawee Station.
