B Street Smart 2024

1

Wednesday 21 August 2024 8:00am - 3:00pm  -  (8am for roll call, buses depart at 8.15am sharp)

All Year 10 students are to attend the full day excursions to the B Street Smart Road Trauma Forum at Qudos Bank Arena Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush on Wednesday 21st August 2024.

The forum provides students, who are most at risk, a realistic look at the trauma caused by road crashes and provides them information and strategies in an attempt to reduce serious injuries and deaths. The forum’s contents and structure aims to treat young people as adults allowing them freedom to choose from a range of interactive exhibits.

Cost: $31.00

Venue:  Qudos Bank Arena (19 Edwin Flack Avenue Sydney Olympic Park NSW 2127)

Transport:  Students will travel to and from the venue via chartered bus. Students will return to Kirrawee High School in time for school buses.

Dress Code:  Full school uniform.

Food:  Canteen facilities will be available at the venue.

Students are to Bring:  Medication (if required). No equipment required.  If bringing food and snacks, it must be brought in a clear plastic bag as no bags / backpacks are allowed into the arena.

Educational Outcomes:  The forum is held because our youth are being severely injured and killed due to potentially preventable road crashes. The NSW statistics for 17-25 year olds, recorded 6,856 casualties of road trauma and 187 deaths. These young people hold only 15% of licenses, but they are involved in 34% of crashes, which often result in hospitalisation. Westmead Hospital Trauma Nurses and NRMA are committed to decreasing these numbers.
