Year 7 History Excursion (Chau Chak Wing Museum) Semester 2, 2025

Year 7 History Fieldwork trip for the topic ‘Investigating the Ancient Past’ at the Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney. Students will be given a tour of the exhibits including explanations about the archaeological methods used and the ethics of displaying items in a museum. Students will also participate in an object based learning activity where they will be able to practice their source analysis skills on items from the museum’s collection.

Students will need to meet in the canteen by 8.00 am for roll call and to be dispatched to the buses. The buses will be leaving school promptly at 8.30 am.

Students will arrive at the University of Sydney at approx. 9:30 am, where they will have a short recess on the grass outside Fisher Library (there are no venues to purchase food, so all food and drinks required should be brought with you for morning tea). After recess, students will be taken on a detailed tour of the venue. After the tour is complete, the students will be taken to the grass outside Fisher Library for lunch. There are no venues to purchase lunch, so students will need to bring all the food and drinks they require. Students should also bring sunscreen if it is a sunny day or wet weather protection if the forecast includes rain.

At approximately 1:30 pm, the students will be loaded back onto the buses and return to school. Students will be supervised until 3 pm when the end of the school day bell rings.

The cost of the excursion will be payable no later than the 11th of August.
