I have got to say how incredibly grateful I am to have such a wonderful Yr12 Vet Entertainment TEAM. Tonight they brought our student leaders vision to life at the Yr7 Open Night 2024.
They rolled with the punches and had enough energy to flip hall in readiness for group photos at 6.30am.
The exceptional standard was set at the start of the night by the Jazz Orchestra. So many new soloists - Kynan Di Cesare and Kayne Harris on Guitar, Kate Hummerston and Will Pearce on Trumpet, Molly Fitzpatrick and Matt Etienne on Tenor sax, Matilda Bradley on Alto sax, Justin Swords on Baritone Sax, Josh Entwhistle on bass guitar and Ryan Mead on drums. Mallee Skelton was in his element on the new Nord 3. Izak Allen and Max Fernandez worked the room while Lucy Gilliland and Scarlett Pettigrew belted out some toe tappers.
It was so lovely to watch Ryan Mead guide our new recruit on drums James Nickell. Still only in Yr 9, he has a bright future. The other shout out has to go to Harry Tsui, lead trumpet, who helped out Kate during rehearsals and Josiah Brennan who had faith and confidence in her to take a solo.
I must mention the sax section lead by Chris Butler. During a number of the songs, I specifically instructed him to react to my direction on the fly and he, and his team, reacted with grace and professionalism. Even when things got a little scary, because I was playing piano instead of conducting, the team stuck together and got the job done. These young musicians are already professionals in my opinion and I can’t wait to see what they can achieve at the Morrison Concert this year.
