Thank you to Joshua Entwistle for writing the report on the Sydney East Blues Award Performance from our talented musicians,
Sydney east Blues Dinner was a Kirrawee affair. From the entertainment through to the guest speakers, it qas Kirrawee all the way. Take some time to read Joshua Entwistle’s report on the event. Josh is one of the Premier Ensemble leaders and of course he was there on the night!
The rhythm section and one vocalist from the Jazz Orchestra (Scarlett Pettigrew) were asked to performe at the SE Awards Dinner as background music for the event on the 13th of November 2023. Our uniform was formal all black with a light blue tie and the venue was Club Central Hurstville. Rhythm section members who performed at this event include Kayne Harris, Tahnia Harris, James Nickell, Joshua Entwistle, Kaya Kimla and Sienna Bussing. Kerri Lacey organised the equipment and performed on keys as well as vocals. The students and their entourage were told to arrive between 5pm and 5:30pm and during this time the equipment was transported to the room of which the awards night was held. Once everyone was finished setting up a small sound check occurred making sure we were all ready.
At approximately 6:15pm the performance began with Kayne Harris on vocals performing ‘Mr Pinstripe Suit’ for the first time. From then on Scarlett Petigrew was on vocals with songs such as ‘Isn’t She Lovely’, ‘Cabin In The Corner’, ‘Too Darn Hot’, ‘Ease on Down the Road’ and ‘3645789’. Throughout the performance James Nickell and Tahnia Harris alternated on the drum kit. Kaya Kimla and Sienna Bussing alternated on the keyboard with assistance from Ms Lacey. After the performance ended at approximately 6:50pm, the equipment was fully packed up. Parents, students and Ms Lacey then had dinner which was paid for using the vouchers provided by the club.
It was a wonderful experience and one we all hope to do again.
